Asara Wine Farm | Platform09 | Easter Weekend
Woke up on the Easter weekend , Good Friday to be exact . With a call from a good friend , who happens to adult to hard (work ) , with the request for an adventure ! Said friend is obsessed with candy crush , snap chat & wine off course . After a couple of calls , because when you live in Cape Town , an adventure is certainly a phone call away…
Within an hour of request , we were ecstatic to find Asara wine farm open for adventure .
With a very handsome designated driver , we made sure we were dressed for autumn about to be winter weather , scarves , beanies and sunnies darlings . Now of course when you live in one of the top cities in the world , a brief 30min drive sees you leaving all your cares behind . Yes we are simple folk , let us leave our cares behind , head for the hills of Stellies , food & fermented grapes will do fine thank you very much . And if your not the biggest tippler , then for sure enjoy the scenery , smell the roses and enjoy that feeling of the hills coming alive with the sound of natures music. The minute we left the N2 we were officially adventuring.
Not too much traffic later & the long windy road that leads to Asara is where we found ourselves , feeling slightly country and impressed with the fact that we actually doing this , we sauntered , yes sauntered our way from parking lot to parlaying at the bar, Hot sun and cold winds makes for the ultimate cozy with a fire burning on entry. Perusing a rather fancy menu of wines . Now , one needs to remember that behavior & decorum are important but hey we made it out the city. So when they offered us free wine …( I’m so tempted to use an emoji right now ), we couldn’t say no.
Mindful of our ever hungry tummies , we drank of the freebie wine before deciding on a bottle of CabSav & where ushered , rather quickly , (the joys of being South African in your own country , yes I’m smiling ) to a table outside with built in heaters and simply sublime scenery. We knew we were hungry but when we ordered 3 boards all with different meat options , we really must have been wined up or just little bit hungry after all those tasters.
Such a worth it adventure, after devouring 3 cheese boards & rather a lazy stroll around a beautiful lake, with these hills that are alive with beauty , there was definitely space for dessert . Now I know dessert is like a swear word to some people , but I literally talk dirty with food ya’ll . We ordered 3 , yes it’s a good number with enough love in the air to share .. We were left not wanting for more ,definitely impressed but super lazy. When you have no expectation and its piled full with great food & wine. Top class service staff and scenery , there’s really no complaints , not from us Safer’s anyway. If your feeling for an adventure or something thing cool to do with your day , know that Asara will not let you down , find your way and go ahead and have a Good Friday , I know I did.
No children were hurt in this adventure so feel free to take yours along , prices will range from a min of R500 pp but definitely worth it purely for the experience , they have Great Water btw 😉 cheers till next time 🙂
Thank you for reading… Comment, complain at your peril but most of all, Go on & have an adventure I Dare You!?
