DESIGN INDABA | NEDBANK | 2017 | REIMAGINE MONEY
Once again the city of Cape Town doesn’t disappoint. After my last eco friendly dance with Nedbank, I was pleasantly surprised to get an invite to a special event, during the top design conference in the world to boot #justsaying. Only a message to arrive on time due to a live telecom broadcast and of course dietary requirements.
Let it be known that the Artscape is one of my favorites buildings in the city , but being brought there for such a secret gathering only added to,the allure . Forward wind to a chilled well lit room , delicious canapés later , lead us all invited into a side entrance theatre and then .. All of the lights
The evening progressed with a surprise creative initiative that was both stealthily executed and well timed . So Nedbank having the Green to Burn, sponsored the worlds top design event ,the brainchild of ultimate creative | Rock star rolled up All into one , Ravi Naidoo . Who happened to be one of the judges on panel that evening . So forward wind to the theatre of Dreams and with a rather captivating comedian , we rolled through meeting 5 dynamic students ! All with various design backgrounds.
While a new edgy marketing campaign was rolled out before our eyes , we were introduced to their new ad , which challengers the viewer to see money differently but acknowledge that the power always lies in your hands . Juxtaposed scenes from all walks of life , clearly showing that it’s people who choose what they do with their money ‘the money don’t own you, you own it’ With a nod toward giving back , the experience got me thinking differently from the get go , where do you keep your precious rands and does your choice give back in anyway ? Challenged much ? & while your thinking it through ,think of the currently trying times we all find ourselves in. It feels to me like the only way we will survive in times of such economic strife and confusion would be to help one another.
While all this unfolds , we also saw winning designer TItus Khoza , walk away with R100 000 in funding for the most innovative initiative toward giving – back In our country (link to more on Titus ) . A much needed boost to Titus’s initiative of providing young ladies with sanitary ware in areas where this is a serious problem.
Definitely a highlight at the Indaba this year , the night ended with a surprise set by SA’s Current Man of the moment in music , BlackCoffee . E mail with design Indaba pics to follow .
